COMMUNITY SERVICES

Two social workers  are doing community service by means of outreach programmes in the community.

The groundwork was done for ‘n poultry project but this project did not get off the ground.

Mothers were address on the use of the child support grant.

Attention was given to the project named “16 days activism of abuse against woman and children”.

The social workers noticed that there were a lot of very poor children in Phagameng.  This matter is receiving attention.

HIV/AIDS informational talks were held in four sections of Phagameng.

Group work was done with children of the Children’s Home – mainly school leavers.

The social worker went to schools and identified the need for special attention to some children.  A group was started with 25 children, but this number is increasing all the time.

A course was presented with "Ondersteuningsraad Nylstroom".  The main focus was to assist parents who have children in foster care.

School leavers:  A programme focuses on life skills and on what is expected of a person when he/she leaves the Children's Home.

A second programme reaches the children practical skills, so that they can make something with their hand that can be sold again to generate an income for themselves.

NG Church Nylstroom-Oos:  This is an upliftment programme.  People are taught how to economise.  Ladies are taught how to make food in the most economical way.
